Shoppers flock to Lasoo's iPhone App
| 27 January 2010
| Thousands of Australians have downloaded the Lasoo iPhone App in the past three months since launch; and are using the application to find retail offers and store locations while they’re out and about.
Since launching in September 2009, the Lasoo iPhone App has proved consistently popular with Australian shoppers, maintaining a strong presence in the top 25 listing of the Apple App Store Lifestyle category. Its popularity peaked during the busy Christmas retail season, recording 329,664 mobile views during the last two weeks of December. A thousand Australians used the Lasoo iPhone App on December 26 to search for offers from the Boxing Day sales.
Shoppers who used the Lasoo iPhone App during the last two weeks of December were also able to upgrade to version 1.1, which officially launched on December 17. This latest version of the app now includes a traditional catalogue browse mode.
Users mainly access the app to search for electronics and technology products. The top 10 popular shopping searches for December 2009 were:
1. Wii 2. iTunes 3. PS3 4. iPod Touch 5. Target 6. Wii Console 7. iPhone 8. Lego 9. iPod 10. BIG W
The Lasoo iPhone App makes use of the phone’s integrated GPS functionality to allow users to search across retail products or browse catalogues that are available in whatever area they happen to be. Once the user has found an offer they’re interested in, the Lasoo Store Locator uses the iPhone’s GPS to direct them to the nearest shop, complete with a map, contact details and opening hours. Users can search across offers from Australia’s leading retailers, including Target, BIG W, Coles, Dick Smith, Myer, Toys R Us, ALDI, Officeworks, Borders, Repco, Priceline and more.
Lasoo.com.au has also extended the application to allow individual retailers to develop their own branded iPhone app, offering the functionality of their Dynamic Catalogue or Dynamic Search mobile site. Myer, BIG W, Borders, Dick Smith and Target are just some of the retailers that currently use either Dynamic Catalogue or Dynamic Search technology.
According to Lasoo.com.au general manager of products and marketing, Matthew Mason: “The fact that the Lasoo iPhone App has been downloaded thousands of times in the last three months really demonstrates how popular the iPhone is with Australians.”
“We plan to keep developing and improving the app in response to demand from our users, and to benefit our retailers in presenting their offers in this ever-changing mobile environment.”
The Lasoo iPhone App is available as a free download from the App Store.
